This is an exciting Senior Management career opportunity with one of our leading Consumer Finance clients. 

The purpose of this role is to optimise the long  term profitability of the company’s R20bn unsecured loans portfolios by setting the appropriate credit risk appetite strategy in line with the company’s strategic objectives. This will be done whilst taking into account Stakeholder Expectations, Portfolio Market Position, the current Economic and Competitive Environment and  the company’s strategic objectives. 

An important aspect to this role will be  to lead, coach and support a team of analytics professionals, who in turn are responsible for making sound, data driven credit decisions.

This position attracts a generous Senior Management Package which includes Medical Aid and Pension. You will also be eligible forPreferential Interest Rates, Relocation Allowance and competitive short-term and long-term incentives.

Qualifications & Requirements

·         An honours degree in Business or Science (Finance, Statistics, Actuarial and/or Mathematics preferred)

·         Good working knowledge of MS Office

·         Working knowledge of SQL/SAS essential

·         Previous Retail Credit Risk Experience of 5+ years

·         Strong ability to interpret data, communicate this to and influence key stakeholders

·         Previous Leadership Experience

·         Experience in interacting with Technical and Credit Appetite Committees

·         Previous collections experience advantageous

·         Analytical mindset

·         Good written and verbal communication skills

·         Attention to  detail

·         Self-starter




Optimise the Long Term Profitability and Returns of the company’s unsecured loans portfolios by setting the appropriate credit risk appetite strategy; incorporating approval criteria, pricing, terms of business, and impairment expectations.

·         Accountable for 12-month impairment, profitability and risk approval rate forecasts for each brand/portfolio, ensuring the optimisation and profitability of the unsecured loans portfolios.

·         Collaborate with Scoring and Analytics team to define modelling requirements and take ownership for implementation and optimisation of those models.

·         Collaborate with the Direct Marketing Team to ensure close alignment between marketing selections and risk appetite.

·         Design bespoke risk assessment processes for each application channel within each portfolio to ensure profitability is maximised in each channel.

·         Take an active role in external Stakeholder Management and board level reporting and feedback.

·         Integrate and optimise new products for each portfolio through working closely with the  product development team.

·         Lead, mentor and develop your portfolio managers.

·         Ensure projects and initiatives are delivered within required timelines

·         Collaborate with Collections department on appropriate collections and recoveries strategies
